Ganymede Barnacles

I’m fascinated by the orbits of the planets and the patterns they make. I find myself associating my work with northern waters which stem from my childhood home in Wales where the turning of the tides meant everything.

I associate colors and shapes together and have found an affinity with the number ‘3’ in all of my toothpick sculptures. The color ‘yellow’ is very significant to them and the pattern they follow. I’m interested in altering a space by incorporating my sculptures like a universe of pattern. Light and shadow are incredibly important in my work and I go to great lengths to establish the presence of the intricate and beautiful shadows that develop when light is allowed to filter through my work.

Presently, I’m focusing my attentions on the orbiting patterns of the moons of Jupiter and am specifically interested in Ganymede and Callisto which dance very beautifully together.
